2020 event trends – How will the industry evolve?

New year, new experiences. We thought we’d seen it all in 2019, crazy themed cocktail bars, extra tricky escape rooms and an explosion of immersive theatre events from Aladdin to The Only Fools And Horses. As the year starts to draw to a close we thought we’d give you a breakdown of events coming to London in 2020.
Ever wondered what it’d like to play Monopoly in real life? Now you can. A real life-sized immersive monopoly board is coming to London in a secret location in 2020, and will be developed by the team behind award-winning musicals such as We Will Rock You, along with the creators of the game, Hasbro Inc.
With the potential to tear families apart, we all know that know that a game of Monopoly can go on and on (…and on) but this experience only lasts up to 75 minutes. The fully immersive event comes to London in 2020 (specific dates yet to be announced) at a secret location.
Now the biggest question – the top hat or race car?
Doctor who Adventure
Fans of Doctor Who will get to delve one step further into the adventures of The Doctor next year. The event will be developed by BBC studies and Immersive Everywhere, and will recreate the world of Doctor Who through an interactive experience. Players will have the opportunity to help ‘save the planet’ through immersive challenges involving strange new worlds and unforgettable characters. The exact London location is yet to be confirmed, but it’s set to premiere in London in late 2020.
Mars and Beyond
Staying on the theme of time-travel, ‘Mars and Beyond’ aims to transport you to alternative futures through eclectic mix of visual elements, performance and many more art forms using. Using interactivity to educate and inspire at a deeper level, The Mars & Beyond show explores both the rise in global warming and the revival of space age in the 2st century.
The show will take place across five floors of Southbank’s Bargehouse (OXO Tower Wharf) between 20 February – 15 March 2020, and will be made up of a collaboration more than 30 artists and contributors, including Greenpeace and Sci-Fi London.
Dirty Dancing at Secret Cinema
Secret Cinema have revealed they will be revisiting the 1987 hit film Dirty Dancing next year. As well as showing the movie (no surprise there), people will get the chance to have the time of their life as they experience the summer of ‘63 through live music, dance and other interactive activities.
True secret cinema fans will know that Secret Cinema has hosted a Dirty Dancing themed event back in 2016, Secret Cinema promise this will be bigger and better than ever. The Dirty Dancing event will be held at a Top secret location, true Secret Cinema Style, and will be running from 22 July 2020 for 2 weeks.
For now, we advise you get practicing that infamous lift!
